This update includes the Mac App Store, a new application you’ll find in the Dock. The Mac App Store includes the following features:

• Discover Mac apps: Browse featured apps, top charts, and categories; or, search for something specific. Read detailed app descriptions and user reviews, and flip through screen shots.

• Buy and install: Easily purchase apps with your iTunes account. Apps install in one step and are quickly available from the Dock.

• App updates: The Mac App Store keeps track of all your purchased apps and notifies you when free updates are available.

Additional improvements

• Fixes a DNS resolution issue for Mac OS X Server v10.6.5. The system now properly resolves a DNS alias (CNAME) that points to a host in a .local domain.

• Improves Mac OS X Server security. For more information about the security content of Mac OS X Server v10.6.5 see this article.

• Includes all the improvements in the previous 10.6.1, 10.6.2, 10.6.3, 10.6.4 and 10.6.5 updates.

• Mac OS X Server v10.6.6 also includes all improvements delivered in the client Mac OS X v10.6.6 Update.

When rebooting for the firmware upgrade, one of our computers failed and did not boot.  There was a long tone (expected for the upgrade), then three tones in a row.  Three beeps means there is a RAM problem with the computer.

From Apple KB article HT2341:

Some RAM may appear to pass the Power-On-Self-Test (POST) but still cannot be used by the operating system. In this case, the computer will display a gray screen, sound three tones and blink the power LED on the front of the computer three times, pause, and repeat the blinking until the computer is turned off.

The memory in the laptop was not modified, and not third party (which may cause this boot problem).

To resolve the issue, we removed and reseated the memory.

I am not sure if this will work with all cases of Firmware 1.8 boot issues, but it fixed on of our systems.

The following command is necessary to enable the widget to detach from Dashboard:

defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES

To implement the command, enter the following:

killall -HUP Dock

To revert, change YES to NO and run the killall command again.

If you would prefer to maximize iTunes, rather than switch to the Mini Player, user the following command in Terminal:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes zoom-to-window -bool YES

If you want to return the settings to the factory default, enter the same command but change YES to NO.

killall Dock

This command will force quit the Dock and Widgets.  The Dock will start up again automatically, and Widgets will be inactive until accessed again.
